A rare Victorian 18ct gold Mizpah ring, fully hallmarked at the Chester Assay Office for 1881. Beautifully crafted, the word MIZPAH is applied in green and rose gold, creating a striking contrast against the yellow gold band.
Derived from the Hebrew word for "watchtower," Mizpah references the biblical blessing, "The Lord watch between me and thee, when we are absent one from another." During the Victorian era, Mizpah jewellery became a cherished symbol of love, protection and remembrance, exchanged between those separated by distance as a token of enduring affection and the hope of reunion.
This ring remains in excellent condition, with exceptionally crisp hallmarks for JT & S, Chester, 18ct, and the date letter for 1881. Rare to find in such well-preserved condition, it is a wonderful example of Victorian sentimental jewellery and an exceptional addition for your collection.
