An elegant and highly collectable rivière necklace, dated 1891. This finely made piece features a continuous line of foil-backed paste stones, each carefully faceted and individually set to create a softly graduating flow of light along the neckline.
The stones display impressive brilliance, their foil backing enhancing both depth and luminosity. Each is set in sterling silver with clear hallmarks consistent with its 1891 date, confirming authenticity. The silver has developed a gentle, age-appropriate patina, adding to its character. The pastes are close backed with a crown collet setting. Almost every stone is stamped with the lion passant on the closed, dome backs. The necklace is fitted with a large bolt ring clasp, in good working order.
A refined example of late 19th-century design, the necklace remains in excellent overall condition. Several claws are loose, and it is therefore best suited to careful, occasional wear. Please refer to the photographs for close-up detail.

Condition: Good antique condition consistent with age. Several claws are loose (please refer to the final three images), though the stones appear secure in their settings with no movement at time of inspection. The pastes are bright with no chips or cracks. Minor wear to foiling - please note the care recommendation.
Care recommendation: Due to the nature of foil-backed antique jewellery, we recommend gentle and considerate wear. Avoid exposure to moisture and perfume, as these will damage the foil backing.
