This captivating 19th-century bar brooch is a rare work by Alfred Jackson of Fremantle, Western Australia. Crafted in 9ct yellow gold, it features a vivid blue paste stone at its centre, flanked by two finely detailed flying doves. A small gold bell gracefully dangles below, adding a playful sense of movement to this delicate and imaginative design.
Jackson, who arrived in Western Australia as a convict in 1866, went on to establish himself as a respected colonial-era jeweller. His work is celebrated for its craftsmanship and unique character, and this brooch is no exception.
