Dating to the Georgian era, this remarkable handmade memorial ring is crafted in 15ct yellow gold and centres on an oblong cabochon almandine garnet bordered creamy, silvery seed pearls. Handmade and finely detailed scrollwork decorates the shoulders, reflecting the craftsmanship and sentimental design so characteristic of the early 19th century.
Inside the band is the original memorial inscription:
"Elizth Lewis died 12 Aug 1810 agd 20."
More than an engraving, it is a deeply personal record of a life remembered over two centuries ago. Memorial rings were commissioned to honour loved ones and to keep their memory close, making each one unique to the individual it commemorates.
Although not hallmarked, the dated inscription, handmade construction and overall design suggest the ring was made around 1810. Now at 216 years old, it survives as a remarkable piece of antique jewellery and a poignant connection to the life and memory of Elizabeth Lewis.

Condition: Good antique condition considering age. The small flowers on either side appear to have possibly originally held tiny seed pearls, which are no longer present. As both sides are identical, this is symmetrical and does not detract from the overall appearance of the piece. The garnet is free of chips/scratches.
