Hermès Carré 90 'Springs' Silk Scarf

Hermès Carré 90 'Springs' Silk Scarf

'Springs' was first released in 1974 and is a much loved design by Philippe Ledoux, who was first enlisted by Robert Dumas in 1947. He has designed over 90 carrés for the Maison Hermès.

At the centre of this scarf is a children's carriage. This carriage was commissioned by Carolina Bonaparte to celebrate the birth of her son with Napoleon, this miniature luxury coach was crafted by renowned coachbuilder J. Fr. Tremblay. Dating to the early 19th century, it is widely regarded as a masterpiece of French coach making.

The central children’s carriage reflects the theme of Springs: early 19th‑century luxury coaches relied on refined spring suspensions, a hallmark of Tremblay’s craftsmanship. Ledoux echoes this engineering through coiled, swirling motifs, making the “springs” both literal—mechanical innovation—and symbolic, evoking energy, movement, and renewal.
